The easiest and quickest way to save money on utilities is to cut back on usage. Every time you leave a room turn off the lights. In the summer set the air conditioning no lower than 78 degrees. In the winter no higher than 70 degrees. Save more money by wearing a sweater and setting the thermostat to 68 degrees.
Check windows for leaks. Repair with caulking so the air you paid to heat or cool doesn't escape.
Use fans in the summer. Circulating air feels cooler.
Use cold water to wash clothes. Most detergents now work as well in cold water as in hot. Cold water doesn't damage fabric as much as hot water does. And measure that detergent. Don't assume the full cap is what you need. Manufacturers make the caps bigger than they need to be.
